Looking for a snack that packs a punch of nostalgia and natural sweetness? You’ve found it. Our Munakka Raisins (Boiled) aren't your average lunchbox raisins. Often called "Abjosh," these are the jumbo, seeded heavyweights of the dried fruit world. Imagine a grape that’s been pampered through a traditional boiling and drying process to reach peak plumpness. Whether you are snacking at your desk in Dubai or prepping a feast in Abu Dhabi, these raisins bring a bit of old-world charm to your modern lifestyle. They are large, dark, and incredibly fleshy, making them a standout choice for anyone who takes their snacking seriously.

Traditional Preparation and Distinct Quality

What makes our Munakka so special? It’s all in the "Boiled" tag. Unlike standard raisins that just sit in the sun, these beauties are briefly dipped in boiling water before they hit the drying racks. This isn't just for show—the blanching softens the thick skin of the Vitis vinifera grape, making the final product much more tender and easy to chew.

We source these carefully to ensure you get that iconic deep brown-to-amber glow. Part of our curated Healthy Indulgence UAE selection, our Munakka Raisins are sorted for consistency. No more digging through a bag of shriveled bits; we offer sizes from 250g for the casual muncher up to 5kg for the culinary pro. It’s the kind of quality you’d expect from a premium Dried Fruits collection, delivered straight to your door across the UAE.

Taste Profile and Texture

If you’ve never tried a Munakka, think of it as a raisin with a deeper, more "grown-up" flavor. It’s sweet, sure, but it has a complex, molasses-like richness that lingers. Because these come from large grapes with seeds, you get a unique contrast: a soft, juicy interior paired with a tiny, nutty crunch from the seeds. It’s like a built-in texture party! The boiling process ensures the skin stays thin and yielding, so you aren't left chewing on leather. It’s a substantial, satisfying bite that honestly feels more like a treat than a simple dried fruit.

Culinary Versatility and Pairing

How do you use them? The possibilities are endless. In many households, the gold standard is soaking a handful overnight to enjoy first thing in the morning. But don’t stop there! They are a "secret ingredient" in traditional desserts like Kheer or Halwa, where they soak up moisture and turn into little flavor bombs.

Want to level up your savory game? Toss them into a Biryani or Pilaf. They love hanging out with aromatic spices. For a quick afternoon boost, mix them with some crunchy picks from our Nuts range or a sprinkle of Edible Seeds. If you’re feeling fancy, brew them with milk and a touch of saffron for a warming drink that tastes like a hug in a mug. They also look (and taste) fantastic on a hospitality platter next to some Snacks.

Nutritional Composition

We believe in keeping things transparent. Munakka Raisins are Mother Nature's version of an energy bar. When you enjoy these, you're getting a concentrated dose of what the grape naturally offers. Here is the objective breakdown of what’s inside:

  • Natural Sugars: Packed with glucose and fructose for a quick energy lift.

  • Dietary Fiber: Found naturally in the skin and pulpy center.

  • Iron: A great plant-based source of this essential mineral.

  • Potassium: Naturally occurring to support your daily needs.

  • Calcium: Small amounts of calcium are tucked away in the fruit.

  • Antioxidants: Contains phenolic compounds like catechins.

History and Processing

The story of Munakka goes back centuries, rooted deeply in the traditions of Afghanistan and India. The name itself is a nod to the specific drying technique. By using a time-honored method of blanching the grapes in a natural alkaline solution before shade-drying, producers managed to preserve the fruit's integrity while speeding up the process. This isn't just food; it’s a piece of history. We are proud to bring this authentic processing method to the UAE, ensuring that whether you are in Sharjah or Fujairah, you’re tasting a product that hasn't changed its "recipe" for generations.

How to tell if a Mango is ripe

  • To check for ripeness, focus on FEEL not color because every variety is a different color when ripe. For example, yellow or red does not necessarily mean ripe.
  • Squeeze gently to judge ripeness. A ripe mango will give slightly, indicating soft flesh inside.
  • Use your experience with produce such as peaches or avocados, which also become softer as they ripen.
  • Ripe Mangoes will sometimes have a fruity aroma at their stem ends.

How to ripen Mangoes

  • Keep unripe Mangoes at room temperature. Mangoes should not be refrigerated before they are ripe.
  • Mangoes will continue to ripen at room temperature, becoming sweeter and softer over several days.
  • To speed up ripening, place Mangoes in a paper bag at room temperature, and store for approximately 2 days or until the Mangoes are ripe.
  • Once ripe, Mangoes can be moved to the refrigerator to slow down ripening for several days.

How to store mangoes

  • Once ripe, Mangoes should be moved to the refrigerator, which will slow down the ripening process.
  • Whole, ripe Mangoes may be stored for up to five days in the refrigerator.
  • Mangoes can be peeled, cubed and placed in an airtight container in the refrigerator for several days or in the freezer for up to six months.
